3dkbicon.gif (292 bytes) 3-D Keyboard.  A multilingual keyboard mapper is installed on all computers in the MLLC for use with any and all Windows programs.  Consult Using 3-D Keyboard in the MLLC for instructions.  The program may be purchased online from Fingertip Software. No longer installed.

Note: All lab computers have the option of using the US-International keyboard for typing French letters with accents.

Système-D. This French composition program with online reference help for vocabulary, grammar, and phrases is installed on 7 computers in the MLLC.

Popular Helper Apps for French Web Browsing and Audio Listening

Acrobat Reader -- an offline reader for PDF (portable document format) files of large publications available for downloading from many web sites. Free From Adobe Systems.
RealOne Player -- a player for live streaming audio and video files without waiting. Necessary for viewing recent Real Media audio and video files.  Free version from RealNetworks.
  2xAV Plug-in for RealPlayer®.  The 2xAV Plug-in adds a "slider bar" to the RealPlayer that lets you change the playback rate of Video and Audio from 1/3 to 2.5 times normal speed without pausing playback."  Voice pitch remains constant.  Free 7-day evaluation version and low-priced registration from Enounce. (Also available for Windows Media Player)
Microsoft Windows Media Player -- another player for multimedia files (audio and video -- will not read all Real Media files).  Free from Microsoft.
QuickTime Player.  Apple's multimedia player, required for "virtual reality," 360 degree scenes and many of the videos on French web sites. Free from Apple.
WinAmp -- a fast, hi-fi audio player for MP3 files.  Free from Nullsoft.
Audacity -- is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems. Free download from Audacity. Using the Effect called Change Tempo can be used to slow down a recording without changing the pitch.
